1982 Vintage: General Appreciation
The 82 Burgundy harvest is a bit of a mystery and obviously when comparing what was to be one of the vintages of the Century in Bordeaux, the same cannot be said in general for the wines of Burgundy in 1982. Amazingly, like many regions in France the growing season was what most would consider ideal. It was a huge harvest and it seems that over-production and a lack of yield management produced huge quantities of wines that lacked any real concentration or grip. I have little confidence that many from 1982 would have survived for enjoyable drinking now. There were some interesting whites though in general they were variable. There are one or two top examples which are really noteworthy.
