1992 Vintage: General Appreciation
This was in many ways a controversial vintage. As so often happens, the critics undertake a handful of barrel samples and make universal pronouncements about the vintage which have a tendency of sticking with the vintage for many years. 1992 was very much the case and the truth is that the reds were in general unexciting and not built for the long haul. The whites were hailed as one of the greatest vintages soon turned out to be ripe but rather dull and lacking in acidity and finesse.
Red Wines
As a general rule 1992 is easily forgotten for the reds though with Burgundy generalisations can be dangerous. There are a few well made, pleasant wines by the best Domaines and a few are still drinking well now though most of these need to be consumed now. Careful selection is absolutely required with the 92’s.
White Wines
In contrast to the reds, at the beginning the whites were seen as amazing. They had plenty of ripe, plump fruits but as it turned out most were better for early consumption as they did not have sufficient balancing acidity. There are one or two wines that have made it to this point but in truth most are past their best.
