1989 Vintage: General Appreciation |
This was a lovely vintage that had pretty much ideal conditions throughout the growing season and at the time of the harvest. In general providing charming, elegant wines with rich, classy fruits and round, soft bodies. The 89’s do not have the structure of the 88’s or the power of the 1990’s but they started out beautifully and the very best are still providing enjoyment now though, they are very much ready for drinking. |
Red Wines |
The best of the reds in general are juicy and ripe with succulent fruits and from the start were forward and open. As the wines aged they have continued to be charming though considerably lighter than either the 1988’s and 1990’s. Top wines are still providing enjoyment. |
White Wines |
The best of the whites were good from the start though as ever with Burgundy grower/producer is critical as there was some unevenness in the wines. Now only a few exceptional wines have remained fresh. |
