Morey Saint Denis Grand Crus
It is fair to say that Morey Saint Denis has not historically achieved the reputation accorded of its neighbour Gevrey Chambertin to the north or that of Chambolle Musigny to its immediate south. This is unfair and based to a large extent on Morey Saint Denis being the smallest wine producing village in the Côte de Nuits. There are five Grand Crus covering collectively just under 40 hectares (including Bonnes Mares, shared with Chambolle Musigny with just 1.54 hectares in Morey and 13.54 hectares in Chambolle Musigny) and of the twenty Premier Crus, only three out of twenty are larger than 3 hectares. In general, the best examples combine elements of both Gevrey Chambertin and Chambolle Musigny.
We have a small selection of outstanding Grand Crus including a trio of top vintages of Clos de la Roche from Rousseau and Hubert Lignier along with Magnums of 1999 from Jadot. A rare single Magnum of the impressive 1995 Clos des Lambrays which is in a perfect place now and will continue to give pleasure for a few years. The trio of Clos de Tart includes a rare Magnum of 1989, which shows great finesse and is ready to go and the same goes for the 1993, which is fully resolved and drinking perfectly. The 2001 is an outstanding wine combining power and finesse with impeccable balance. Hard to resist now, but will remain in a perfect place for many years.
