Rayas Collection
We have an extraordinary small collection of wines from the legendary Chateauneuf du Pape estate, Château Rayas featuring some of the iconic vintages kicking-off with 1978, 1988 and 1989. We also have five vintages of the small production Rayas Réservé white. All have been stored in ideal conditions.
While there are around 300 domaines in Chateauneuf du Pape, many great names producing excellent wines, there is no other wine quite like those of Rayas. Albert Reynaud came to Rayas in 1880 and the estate is still owned by the Reynaud’s Rayas was one of the first estates in the region to bottle and sell their own wines. Under the direction of the Jacques Reynaud from 1978 till his death in 1997, the wines gained significant reputation and became one of the most desired and sought after internationally.
With 12 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape, 10 hectares planted with Grenache for the Rayas Réservé red (100% Grenache) and 2 hectares planted with Grenache Blanc and Clairette for the Rayas Réservé white (50% Grenache Blanc & 50% Clairette).
As with all legendary wines, it’s not easy to simply identify what makes them truly special. Rayas has a unique terroir, the coolest in Chateauneuf du Pape, extremely low yields of between 12-20 hectolitres per hectare and then there is the ageing in barrels, many of which are between 50-100 years old. Rayas is above all traditional, highly individual and a magnificent, unique drinking experience.
