Rare Traditional Barolo: Giacomo Conterno, Bruno Giacosa & Bartolo Mascarello

We are delighted to offer a small selection of outstanding wines from what are still considered as the leading “traditionalist” producers in Barolo. The overarching philosophy of the “traditionalists” is perhaps best summarised by Roberto Conterno, “I’m making Barolo the way I always did, the way my father(Giovanni Conterno)did, and the way my grandfather(Giacomo Conterno, the founder) did!”

Producers such as Giacomo (and Giovanni) Conterno, Bruno Giacosa and Bartolo Mascarello understood with Nebbiolo is that patience is both required and rewarded. Extended maceration times of around 30 days and long ageing in 5,000-10,000 litre, old Slavonian oak botti are employed, resulting in wines that with extended ageing develop rich, deep flavours and reach perfect balance.

These are outstanding examples of the very best from Barolo with the mature wines from the late 60’s, 70’s and 80’s are in great shape and provide such a fabulous drinking experience.
