Amazingly, given the quality of Regis Forey’s wines this is one of the least well-known of all top Vosne Romanee domaines. The Domaine dates back to the mid 1800’s and was started by Regis’ great-grandfather and now covers 9.5ha half owned and half under long-term rental agreements.
Importantly, Forey owns parcels in Echezeaux (0.3ha), Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Petits Monts (0.19ha) and 0.3ha in the tiny Vosne Romanee Premier Cru gem Les Gaudichots which only covers 0.8ha in total (most of the original vineyard was subsumed into La Tache in 1936 following the Institute Nationals des Appellations d’Origine (INAO) classification of Burgundy vineyards.
The Forey wines are distinctive and I have to say I have always enjoyed the relatively few wines I have had from this Domaine. The wines are respectful of individual terroir and are wonderfully plump and vibrant with rich fruits and gorgeous velvety textures. I find they have a seductive, elegance that are balanced and have the capacity for ageing gracefully.
The portfolio of wines brought to the tasting were some of the most impressive of the day.
