The Domaine was founded in the early 1930’s and the reputation was enhanced by Georges Mugneret who purchased plots in key vineyards including Clos Vougeot and Ruchottes Chambertin.
Dr Georges Mugneret was one of the foremost ophthalmologists in France but his passion and love was the Domaine. Following his death in 1988 his daughters Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée jointly manage the estate both having studied oenology. The estate covers just 6ha with fabulous plots and many old vines.
I have always loved the wines from this Domaine and though not as well known as many, it is without doubt producing some of the finest wines in the Cote de Nuits. Total quality starting with dedicated work in the vineyards results in beautifully elegant wines that show such class. Never heavy the wines are the epitome of finesse and balance.
The problem like a number of top estates is that there is insufficient quantity making them hard to get hold of.
