There is no two ways about it that this Domaine crafts some of the most accomplished wines in Burgundy. The Domaine was started by Sylvain’s grandfather in the 1930’s who worked for the Domaine de la Romanee Conti amongst others before buying his first small plot in Vosne. Sylvain Cathiard farms just 4.2ha across 11 different vineyard sites including a tiny 0.17ha plot in Romanee Saint Vivant.  Other holdings include 0.74ha in Aux Malconsorts, 0.24ha in Les Reignots and 0.16ha in Les Suchots with most of the vines being a minimum of 40 years old.
The wines speak for themselves, top quality and beautifully elegant with silky textures and possess such harmony and balance. Sylvain’s son Sébastien is now managing the Domaine and we spoke about the differences between the vintages from 2010-2013 and said that 2013 was a more challenging vintage where he had to do much careful triage. He concluded that 2013 has turned out very well with softer, more forward, elegant wines.
