1993 Vintage: General Appreciation |
This was right from the start an excellent vintage for the reds even though conditions were difficult during various parts of the season especially leading up to and during the harvest. Diligent growers seemed to manage the harvest well and with such small plots and longer-range weather forecasts problems were avoided. The Pinot fruit was small in size and somewhat reduced in quantity but what remained had excellent concentration of fruit and strong full colours. |
Red Wines |
The reds have turned out exceptionally well rich and aromatic with sufficient acidity and ripe tannins making them vibrant and harmonious. In many respects they are similar in quality to the 1990’s and have the required stuffing for the best to age beautifully. The top wines are still drinking well now and in many cases have long lives in front of them. |
White Wines |
Much more care and selection is required with the 93 whites. There were some highly attractive wines but in general they were early-drinkers. Now only one or two exceptional wines will be capable of providing enjoyment. |
