1994 Vintage: General Appreciation
Grape1994 perhaps in a similar way to Bordeaux never garnered much excitement though until the start of September conditions had been very positive. Down came the rains and there was considerable concern over rot and those that harvested late tended to fare better. In reality there were some Réasonable wines produced as ever in Burgundy but they lacked concentration.
Red Wines
In a difficult vintage it was no surprise that the conscientious and those who took the risk and picked late produced some good wines that were elegant, soft and attractive though most did not possess the required concentration to fully shine through. Careful selection is required to find those wines that have the legs to be drinking well now.
White Wines
In a similar way to the reds, the whites were difficult and the hard effort plus some risk taking rewarded the few growers who worked tirelessly to find optimum fruit. I suspect very few outside of the real superstars are providing much enjoyment now.
