1959 Vintage: General Appreciation
Like many regions of France this was an abundant and highly successful vintage in Burgundy. At the time it was hailed as vintage of the century and has been compared to 1949 and then 1990. I have had some notable successes from this vintage relatively recently with wines still showing freshness and vigour even though undoubtedly, the very best of these wines need to be consumed.
Red Wines
A fabulous classic vintage in the main for the reds with fresh fruits that are rich, deep and complex supported by great structures. All in all very defined and harmonious.
White Wines
The whites were amazingly concentrated yet with the corresponding balancing acidity creating opulent, decadent wines. There are possibly one or two gems out there but in the main these should have already been consumed.
